Discover the animal parks and aquariums in Vendée
To meet the animals, visit one of the wildlife parks in our beautiful region. Some are close to La Tranche-Sur-Mer, others a little further away. The Ecozoo in Les Sables-d’Olonne is the closest. Take your children to meet giraffes, Cuban flamingos, crocodiles, penguins, panthers and many other species. You might even catch a glimpse of some newborn babies. Another zoo in Mervent is Natur’Zoo. Created in 1959, this zoo has since undergone numerous transformations to accommodate new animal species, and now includes a space dedicated to African species. If you prefer the marine world, visit the Aquarium de Vendée in Talmont-Saint-Hilaire or Sealand Aquarium in Noirmoutier-En-l’Ile. While you’re on the island of Noirmoutier, marvel at the many species of butterflies at L’Ile aux Papillons in La Guérinière. To take part in France’s biggest safari, head to Planète Sauvage in Port Saint Père.
Take a walk with the animals on the farm
For a real farm experience for the whole family, we recommend a visit to the Ferme du Marais Poitevin. Here you’ll meet local species such as geese, goats, sheep, bullocks and chickens. You can get up close to the animals, care for them and cuddle them. In Sallertaine, the Ilot Zanimo is another educational farm where you can discover numerous farm animals. Rabbits, pigs, peacocks, donkeys, cows, zebus, sheep, goats, llamas, horses and many more have been trained to interact with children. Young and old alike can approach them, feed them, stroke them and even go for a pony ride. If you prefer horses, you can of course also go horseback riding in the Vendée.
